Trivia[]
- A game-breaking bug was discovered in that, where all three save slot were used up and all three Dons have costumes other than the default one, the game freezes on the title screen and won't load anything. This was fixed later in the same year, when Bandai Namco Games (Now Bandai Namco Entertainment) announced that anyone with the defective game can trade it in for the updated version for free.
- This release introduces the first of several features:
- Don's room, a central hub of the side options of the game, features changing Don's body color and costumes, and a new unlock system introduced in the form og notifications from in-game characters by the way of letters, which will let players know what challenge to attempt in order to unlock a specific reward, or in other words, has unlocked a reward, such as a costume or song.
- A new drumroll-type note named the "Denden" (でんでん) note is introduced, where players must alternate between the "don" and "ka" sides of the drum during each drumroll. This is only exclusive to this game and other Taiko games for DS.
- The daily dojo mode was introduced, where players can rank up by completing challenges on an assigned song on a specific difficulty in a daily basis. This feature ran up until Taiko no Tatsujin Wii: Chogouka-ban.
- A new tutorial on the basics on how to play the game is introduced, marking this the first game since Taiko no Tatsujin RT not to have any sung songs with it,
- The "Don Point" system that was featured on several PS2 and the first two PSP releases was permanently removed. The reason is unknown, but it is possible that it was removed to simplify the unlocking system.
- This game marks the first time where players can freely select modifiers while selecting a song (found in the "Options" tab next to the difficulty settings tab). In several PS2 predecessors, players had to enter the actual names (such as "Baisoku", "Yonbai", "Sanbai", "Doron", "Kanpeki", and "Abekobe") in order to enable the modes.
