Taiko no Tatsujin: TaTaCon de Dodon ga Don (Japanese: 太鼓の達人 タタコンでドドンがドン, Taiko no Tatsujin: Tatakon de Dodon ga Don) is a Taiko no Tatsujin game released for PlayStation 2 and is the first Taiko no Tatsujin game ever released on video game console.

The bundle version, bundled with the first TaTaCon peripheral, first released on October 24, 2002 before the standalone game release on March 27, 2003.

Gameplay

The core gameplay is exactly the same as the Taiko no Tatsujin 3 arcade, with the only inputs being "Don" and "Kat" during the song play; By hitting the notes at the right timing, donder's Soul Gauge will filling up. If the Soul Gauge reached a certain point at the end of the song play, the song is cleared.

The main mode, the Arcade Mode, is what exactly it is; It emulates the arcade cabinet's behaviour. If donder failed to clear the song in one of any three songs, it is count as a game over.

TaTaCon de Dodon ga Don includes modes that are exclusive to the console releases. They are:

  • The Free mode, which behave similarly to Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum Session!'s training option but without the rewinds/stop functionality and hit rate measurement, doesn't have the same limitation as the Arcade mode but won't records any scores.
  • The 2-player only Battle Mode put two donders against each other. Two donder's Soul Gauge will pushing each other and whoever missed the note will have his/her Soul Gauge pushed away. During the song play, a small but slowly enlarging bomb will slowly but obstructing the drum lane view, and will explode after enlarged to a certain size, depleting the Soul Gauge of the one who is at disadvantage. The one with the most Soul Gauge win.
  • The 1-player only Survival Mode has donder playing a number of randamly-selected songs at the set difficulty. Note that the Soul Gauge won't refill in this mode and completely depleted the Soul Gauge is considered game over. The one who managed to clear all songs without completely depleted the Soul Gauge win.

The game also features the Mini-Game Mode and features two mini-games. They are:

  • 100 Meter Run - In this mini-game, Don is facing against Mecha-Don and his various allies. Donder will have to hits the don input rapidly to make Don run faster, but be warned, Don will start rolling and won't able to move for a moment.
  • Boston Marathon - Unlike the 100 Meter Run mini-game, this mini-game requires donder to hit specific inputs at the steady paces. After the certain amount of time, Don will starts running faster and donder is required to drumrolling as much as possible before Don returns to normal jogging. The one who managed to get the finish line first in the marathon win.

Starting with this game, the Donderful difficulty was renamed to Oni in Japanese language releases.
